The Big Turn-Off Could Get Bigger. By Ben Cubby, Sydney Morning Herald April 1, 2008. "After a surprisingly high number of people participated in Earth Hour around the world on Saturday night, organisers have set the optimistic target of a billion people for next year's event before crucial climate change talks in Denmark. At least 50 million people in more than 40 countries switched off their lights for an hour, but World Wide Fund for Nature hopes far more will participate in 2009 if authorities in China, Russia and India pledge support. 'If you can get a billion people saying we want action on climate change, via Earth Hour, that will send a very clear message to the negotiations in Copenhagen,' said Greg Bourne, the director of WWF Australia."
