Cyprus Gets Onboard with Wind Energy. AFP, July 31, 2009. "Cyprus on Friday signed a deal with local company DK Windsupply to build one of the largest wind parks in the east Mediterranean, to boost its renewable energy sources, officials said. The park, to be built near the southwestern coastal town of Paphos, will have 41 Danish-made wind turbines that will produce 82 megawatts, the commerce ministry said. The island is hoping to meet EU targets of 13% of its energy output coming from renewable sources by 2020. Currently, the figure stands at a lowly 2%. The commerce ministry said the agreement would enable construction to start from August 3 and be completed by the end of next year."
