France Considers Launching Carbon Tax. AFP, July 28, 2009. "France's government was set to consider taxing carbon emissions as part of a drive to fight global warming, after experts handed in a report on the issue on Tuesday. The government-named panel [was] headed by former Socialist prime minister Michel Rocard... The prospective carbon tax on fossil fuels is aimed at steering consumers and business away from energy-hungry goods and services... would bill 32 euros (46 dollars) for every ton of carbon dioxide emitted in 2010, rising to 100 euros per ton in 2030."
