Local Opposition Stalls British Wind Power. By James Kanter, NYTimes, August 5, 2009. "Prospects for onshore wind seem to be dimming in Britain, where local opposition to building turbines in the small and densely populated country are driving at least one industry player to cut back production there. Vestas, a large Danish wind-turbine maker, has said its decision to shut a blade-manufacturing site on the Isle of Wight was partly due to the way local planners across Britain have stymied a reliable flow of projects... Greenpeace said the difficulties faced by the wind industry in Britain are confirmed by a government-sponsored study showing that local councils are refusing permission for wind farms more often than they are allowing them to be built."
