Climate-Change Protesters Scale UK Parliament. AP, October 11, 2009. "Several dozen environmental activists scaled Britain's Parliament building Sunday to draw attention to climate change. Greenpeace said 55 of its members were atop the building, where they could be seen holding yellow banners reading 'Change the politics, save the climate.' One flew a giant flag from a turret in the shadow of the Big Ben clock tower. The group said the protesters scaled the neo-Gothic, 19th-century landmark using ladders and ropes. The group said it planned to stay overnight so it could welcome lawmakers, who return from their summer break on Monday. 'We are here to remind them that they simply haven't done enough to stop climate change and we need to see some action at home,' protester Anna Jones, 28, said via a cell phone from the rooftop. The demonstrators want legislators to sign a 12-point climate manifesto calling for steep cuts in carbon emissions and investment in renewable energy." 24-Hour Roof-Top Demo Ends. AFP, October 12, 2009. "Climate change protesters ended a 24-hour rooftop protest at the Houses of Parliament late Monday, as authorities launched an 'urgent' investigation into how they scaled the landmark. Around 50 Greenpeace activists spent Sunday night on top of the Palace of Westminster to urge lawmakers returning from their summer break to take action to cut carbon emissions before the UN's key Copenhagen summit in December. Police said all the remaining protesters had come down from the roof and 19 were arrested, while 23 activists detained overnight Sunday have been bailed... Greenpeace's executive director John Sauven said the demonstration had been 'an amazing success.'"
