Grandparents are U.K. Champions of Green Movement. By Louise Gray, LondonTelegraph, September 22, 2008. "Grandparents are the new champions of the green movement thanks to wartime austerity and a commitment to recycling, according to a survey. The majority of pensioners consider themselves environmentally aware compared to just over three quarters of 16 to 24 year-olds, the Age Concern survey of 2,000 people found. Perhaps due to wartime rationing, half of the elderly were brought up to be prudent about waste, whereas one in five of the 25-34 age group say they were raised that way… Altruism appears to be the overriding factor in the older generation's eagerness to be eco- friendly. More than two in five (40%) said what they do now for the planet will affect future generations."
