Endangered Ridley Turtles' Nesting Beaches Erased by Ike. By Harvey Rice, HoustonChron, October 15, 2008."Hurricane Ike may have dealt a setback to the recovery on the upper Texas Gulf Coast of the world's most endangered sea turtle by destroying beaches, a researcher said Tuesday. The storm erased nesting areas for Kemp's ridley turtles by tearing away dunes and beaches on the Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island, said André M. Landry Jr., director of the Sea Turtle and Fisheries Ecology Research Laboratoryat Texas A&M University at Galveston."
