Switzerland On Track to Meeting Kyoto Target Levels. SwissInfo, October 24, 2008. "Five years after ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, officials said on Friday that Switzerland was on track to meet target levels for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. By 2012 the country will have reduced its net emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and synthetic gasses by eight per cent compared with 1990 levels -- goal set when the treaty was ratified in 2003... Calculating net emissions includes domestic reductions as well as carbon credits for climate protection programs abroad and for forests that sequester CO2. The Swiss government also set its own goals for singling out CO2 emissions. The goal to reduce output of that gas by ten per cent against 1990 levels is also likely to be met by 2012, the Environment Office said."
