Obama Wooed with Anti-Oilsands Personal Ads. By Judith Lavoie, CanwestNews, February 15, 2009. "As Obama prepares to visit Ottawa on Thursday, Forest Ethics is using the personals to get its point across about Alberta's oilsands... A message running in the In Search Of sections in the personals reads: 'On TV, you said Yes, we can and talked about a clean energy future. Meet me in Canada and we'll sweep aside the world's dirtiest oil, the Tar Sands, and make sweet climate-change solutions together'... The ads are also running on the Craigslist website across North America and, on Tuesday, a full-page ad will run in USA Today, urging Obama to look at clean energy, rather than fossil fuels. Merran Smith, ForestEthics' director of climate, said from Vancouver that Canada desperately needs climate leadership. 'President Obama has already shown that he's serious about building a clean-energy future, while the Canadian government is still missing in action,' she said. Obama is expected to discuss energy and climate issues with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and a North American climate pact might be proposed."
