Salazar Pulls Plug on Wyoming Oil Leases. By Daniel J. Parks, CQ Politics, February 2, 2009. "The Obama administration continued its effort to roll back Bush administration energy and environmental policy by withdrawing 9,423 acres from a list of parcels slated to go on the auction block for oil and gas exploration... The eight parcels were among 145 in Wyoming scheduled to be auctioned Tuesday morning... in Cheyenne. The auction of oil and gas leasing rights on the remaining 137 parcels totaling 163,527 acres will continue as scheduled... The list of parcels up for auction was developed under the Bush administration. [Gov. Dave] Freudenthal sent a letter to the BLM on Monday, requesting that the leasing of the eight parcels be deferred, citing populations of grizzly bears, elk, moose, mule deer, bighorn sheep and sage grouse as reasons for concern. Salazar granted the request later in the day."
