$2-Billion Infusion Coming to Cash for Clunkers Program. Detroit Free Press, August 7, 2009. "Cash for clunkers will live another few weeks after the U.S. Senate approved a $2-billion emergency refill Thursday of the program that's proven far more popular than the government or industry anticipated. By a vote of 60-37, the Senate added $2 billion to the $950 million originally provided for buyers who trade in an old gas guzzler for a voucher of $3,500 to $4,500 on a new, more efficient car or truck. Now the focus returns to dealers, many of whom report running short of new vehicle inventory after a year of factory shutdowns and slow sales."
