Canadian Liberal Leader Praises BC Carbon tax. By Doug Ward, Vancouver Sun, September 13, 2008. "Liberal leader Stephane Dion campaigned in British Columbia Friday... declaring Premier Gordon Campbell a 'hero' for implementing the first carbon tax in Canada... The Liberal leader acknowledged, though, that Campbell's carbon tax has become increasingly unpopular in the province. 'I know that the premier is facing some controversy. But he's right.' Dion said that the Campbell government will eventually be seen as the 'pioneer' in the fight against greenhouse gas emissions. Prime Minister Stephen Harper earlier in the week told reporters in B.C. that Dion's Green Shift would leave British Columbians saddled with a double carbon tax. Dion didn't specifically address Harper's warning, but he did accuse the Conservative leader of 'fear-mongering' and distorting the facts about the Green Shift plan."
